Who is a care leaver?

Once you turn 18, you are no longer legally in care. However, although most young people leave care at 18, some may leave care before that.

You are a Redbridge care leaver if you are aged 16 or over and have been looked after by Redbridge for more than 13 weeks after your 14th birthday, including at least some time in care after your 16th birthday.

If you were looked after by Redbridge immediately before someone was granted a Special Guardianship Order to look after you, you may also qualify for some advice and assistance from our Leaving Care Service if you are between 16-21, but not full Leaving Care rights.

Your Social Worker or Personal Advisor can help you to understand which of these categories applies to you.

Coram Voice provides independent advice around your Leaving Care rights.

If you were an unaccompanied asylum-seeking child, please visit our extra support pages.
