If you are being targeted because of prejudice or hate due to race, religious belief, sexuality, gender, disability or age then it is called hate crime.

Reporting a hate crime

If you are a victim of, or have witnessed, a hate crime or incident, you can report it to one of several organisations by:

Calling the non-emergency number 101
Visiting your local police station
Online at the report it website. You don't have to give your name
In an emergency, call the police on 999

What are hate crimes?

Hate crimes and hate incidents are crimes that are motivated by hostility or prejudice against a group of people based on a characteristic or perceived characteristic.

This could be:

race
disability
religion or belief
gender
age
sexual orientation
trans and gender reassignment
disability - including physical and learning disabilities and mental health
the perception that someone fits into one of these categories, even if they do not
